The good and the bad...

Success is considered as good, failure is considered bad. Winning as good, losing as bad, making money as good, losing money as bad, making a relation as good, breaking a relation as bad... This is how the general consideration is. But in a bit lower level isn't there more to it ?

A CEO who offers special bonus every DASARA is good or even great. A CEO who cares a lot about your health and offers you one of the best yoga trainers in the city is awesome. The same good, great and awesome CEO may turn out to be bad, ugly when he sacks you from the job ? or just when he denies an increment? The CEO is good until he has money, until he can afford it. Its the same CEO with same height, same weight and same look !! Who is really bad ? The CEO or you or the money or the affordability ? We help friends. We help poor. We help those in need. But only what we can afford. Then why we feel ourselves as great ? When it can afford, Australia is a heaven. When it cannot, its a racist country !!

A film star who could gather 8 lakh people for his party inaugural meeting is a hero. The same film star who loses against a woman is a zero. A music composer is nothing for an international magazine until a so called great entity recognizes his talent. He is top 100 this, top 10 that over night for his decades of efforts just because he was recognized. A cricket team captain deserves a temple when his team is winning. The same captain deserves abusive criticism when his team is losing.

A great entrepreneur with excellent achievements over decades may turn out to be a cheat for some thing that was a result of happenings of few months. A best friend may turn out to be bad when his/her priorities are changed. A winner may turn out to be a loser suddenly, an interesting thing may turn out to be boring suddenly.

When the behaviour, result of some thing (or some one) is directly dependent on external factors which are partly or completely not under its control like money, affordability, recognition by an external entity, a team effort etc. , how can it be good or bad ? great or waste ?

Then why hate individuals than incidents ?

  1. people see the end effect or end result. No one bothers about the motives or causes.Every one and every thing in the world is driven by selfish motive of an individual.

  2. Hello Sripal, What a nice thought. Though I feel you could have worded it better, I still have to appreciate for your thought.
Good, Bad, Great, Poor..etc..are all human perceptions, not facts. We all live in a highly programmed society that we need vents to let out our frustration from being well behaved, well mannered and refined. Thats why instead of blaming ourselves for not being able to find a better paying job, we blame the CEO for not giving a good bonus.
We usually see people coming out of the theater saying 'who made this idiot a hero? he doesn't even know how to act'. The same guy would run with an autograph book or a camera, if told that the same hero is around the corner of the street.
So though people say a lot of things to blend in with the common belief of the society, deep down everybody will have their own opinion. Chiranjeevi's campaign drew lakhs of people, but we all know now how many have voted. I think that explains what I was trying to say.
Have a great day and keep writing.

  3. Great observation sripal,
Good is having desirable or positive results and bad is vise versa. Money, affordability, recognition ......are the products of results.

Then why hate individuals than incidents?
-in case of CEO, an individual made by incident (on one think what behind that intervention, they will think what harm them.)
-in case of film star, cricket team captain incident played with their emotions, which they build up from their past victories (here expectations played major role)
-in case music composer incident take him to proud. Here talent recognized by a recognized entity, which we crazily recognized. (Very poor situation)
-in case of entrepreneur, an incident which made by him is reached them with 100times times speed than his excellence.
-in case of a friend (I don’t call best friend here, if it is best there no place for priorities) priorities leads possessiveness.
(Beauty, truth, friendship, love, creation – these are the great values of life. We can't prove them, or explain them, yet they are the most stable things in our lives.)

And the one and only one answer for all these questions is we are humans. (Character may be manifested in the great moments, but it is made in the small ones.)

When a bad thing turns good - How good!
When a good thing turns bad - How bad!
Appreciate both, because if nothing turns at all we are finished.

  4. Humans tend to be hypocrites after all, it is the "convenience factor".
